Challenge?!

Finally the days which are going to be a challenge for me are coming. I am leaving the States and heading towards Iran for at least a semester and it may get longer depends on how my life is going to be; but, the good feature is that I am two years ahead of my peers so even if I come back some time in 2006, it still won't be that bad!!! Fortunately as I was talking to the University's admission officers they can extend my admission up to age 18 (which is 2 years from now) upon my parents request. Thus, I don't need to be worried about anything till that time. Hopefully I will gain a lot of experience and knowledge in the coming years. I am leaving Boston on Tuesday for Zurich and after a day in Zurich we will go to Teheran via Dubai.

Discussion ...

One of my friends have left me an interesting comment for my post about 9/11; I would be glad to hear your ideas about my statement and Farhad's comment; are you agreed or disagreed; and if so, why?

Post: September 11

Three years ago at 8:45 a.m. EDT on the morning of September 11, 2001, the first of four hijacked planes, American Airlines Flight 11, crashes into the north tower of the World Trade Center; It is now three years past, thousands of Americans have been killed in Iraq and Afghanistan in a war against terrorism, to protect the world not just America; but it still exists and it is a long way to go in order to make the world free of terrorists. We; people of the Islamic world, let's put our hands together to bring faith to our hearts and do not let anyone to use our religion, belief and heritage to hurt innocent people. Come to defend our beliefs and prove it that Islam is a religion of peace and faith, and those who does such a barbaric attack do not practice Islam and are not Muslim.

Farhad Taghibakhsh's comment

Dear Seyed, I read your nice words. I'm sure most of the people of the world wish a peaceful world, without terrorism, war, and ... Hope we try to have such a world and see it in our lives, as you are a man of science, thought and value, let me ask you a question: Have you ever read Quran (completely)? It says: "Kill 'kuffar' where ever you find them!No matter who 'kuffar' are, do you think this is a "right" statement? Is that a decent statement to be found in a holy book? There are lots of strange statements like this or even worse. If you like we can start a discussion.

Windows ...

Microsoft ® Windows ®, I believe is the best and the most convenient operating system for your computer; but something that I am really sick of; is, that when there is a problem, it is really tough to fix it. I am now dealing with a toolbar that has been downloaded on my computer by mistake and I can't get rid of it. It has made my laptop really slow. Does anyone have any clue?

A big change

Life is getting more even and constant, and there's not much to say. Hopefully, the good aspect of life is that it will change if I want to change it!! Which means, for the couple of last days I am struggling, in order to get into conclusion that I have to change it myself; or I need other's contribution for my change. I guess, I will have a revolution in a couple of hours and trying to forget about everything and making the best decision. Unfortunately life is tough and unfair!

Weekend ...

mm!! The last couple of days I was out of town. Frankly, it was a great trip that I could see a lot of different fellows.

Saturday, I went to Cheshire, a quite small city in the Connecticut. We went up there to visit a couple of friends that we have made recently. They are really nice people. In the category of Iranians who are stacked in here; but anyways Iranian, is always Iranian even if you can not speak farsi that good. Although the family's father is psychologist from Bangladesh who has married an Iranian woman; but, I believe he was really proficient in speaking Farsi as he was talking to my parents.

Yeterday, which was Sunday we went to New Hampshire to visit my dad's cousin!! Over there the story was quiet different. The family's wife is an American who has married an Iranian guy. Over there she couldn't speak Farsi but she had the spirit of an Iranian; friendly and warm; I have known them for such a long time, whenever we stop by at their house my parents talk in English to each other and her family; but it just seemed to me that they are all Iranian.

Small is beautiful

mm!! Today I saw a Harvard Gazette in campus which had an interesting story about an Islamic collection. Thus, tonight I went over its web page and found the article online; I think you'll enjoy it.

A well-designed museum exhibition can open windows on unfamiliar worlds. At a new exhibition at the Sackler Museum, viewers can glimpse a large, complex, and fascinating world through some rather small windows.

The exhibition is called "Closely Focused, Intensely Felt: Selections from the Norma Jean Calderwood Collection of Islamic Art." Calderwood, a scholar and collector of Islamic art, assembled her collection of ceramics, works on paper, lacquer ware, and other objects from 1968 to 1998 during numerous visits to the Middle East. Her husband, Stanford Calderwood, a former executive at Polaroid and a generous patron of the arts, gave the collection of 173 objects to Harvard in 2002.

Mary McWilliams, the Norma Jean Calderwood Curator of Islamic and Later Indian Art, arranged the exhibition, which features about a quarter of the collection. McWilliams is working on a catalog of the entire collection, which she hopes to finish in 2005.

Calderwood, who conducted graduate work in art history and Persian language at Harvard and taught Islamic and Asian art at Boston College, concentrated her collecting efforts on Persian or "Persianate" art, a designation that includes not only modern Iran but parts of Iraq, Uzbekistan, and Afghanistan. The objects in the collection span 1,000 years, from ninth century ceramics to 19th century lacquer ware. In their changing styles one can see the impact of successive dynasties, foreign invasions, and religious and cultural borrowings. A comparable span of European art might begin with the Irish Book of Kells and end with the French Impressionists.

Downtown LA

This is downtown Los Angeles!! It wasn't "huge" in terms of high rises unlike Chicago, New York or even Boston. The reason is obvious; it is earthquake!! Therefore LA is not a concentrated metropolitan and doesn't have an efficient public transportation system. I believe Chicago has the best public transportation of the nation. I like Boston the best!!!!

End of journey ...

I have just got back from California this morning. It was a really great trip; I really enjoyed the time while I was there. The return flight was almost empty. We bought an economy class ticket but it was just like business class. We were settled at Torrance, one of the Los Angeles counties. I am really tired now and probably will collapse in a few minutes but I'll write some more later though !!!

I went with my mom and dad and we really enjoyed our time there. There were a lot of food; from every corner of the globe. We didn't see any Persian food there! but we ate a lot!!!!!!

Politicians

mm!! Sometimes I start to ask myself that why the American politicians have to talk the way just like they are Jesus?!! It was just ridiculous the way the Laura Bush was talking today at the convention. She regrets the death of her poppy not the lives of thousands of people including Americans in Iraq and Afghanistan or any other place on the globe who are fighting for freedom. Obviously Mrs. Bush is not a politician but she could give a better speech as the first lady of the United States and I just ....
As I have said before I am going to have a short trip to Los Angeles over the weekend and Labor day; and it's less than a month left for me to come to Iran and face a new challenge in my mysterious life. I don't know what is going to happen there but I just want God to bless both the great nations of America and Iran.
